Dr. (Lt Gen) CS Narayanan

Dr. (Lt Gen) CS Narayanan is a distinguished Neurologist and Lieutenant General in the Armed Forces Medical Services, currently serving as Head of Department of Neurology at Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, Delhi.

He earned his MBBS from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune (1980), MD in Medicine from the same institution (1988), and DM in Neurology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (1998).

Over his career he has led neurology sub-specialty programs including acute stroke care, epilepsy surgery, immuno‑modulatory therapies for multiple sclerosis, and botulinum toxin administration for movement disorders. He performed the first deep brain stimulation procedure in the Armed Forces in 2000 and has extensive experience in teaching and examining MD (Medicine) and DNB (Neurology) students for over 15 years.

With 46 years of overall experience, of which 28 years are as a specialist, he has held senior positions such as Deputy Chief Integrated Defence Staff, Deputy Commandant and Dean (Academics) at Army Hospital (Research and Referral), and Senior Consultant (Medicine) overseeing the Armed Forces Medical Services. His contributions have been recognized with the Vishisht Sewa Medal (three times) and appointment as Honorary Surgeon to the President of India.
