Dr. Rajesh V Helavar

Dr. Rajesh V Helavar is a Senior Consultant in Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology at Manipal Hospital, Yeshwanthpur and Hebbal, Bengaluru. With over 16 years of professional experience, he has dedicated the last 15 years to interventional radiology, developing expertise in both vascular and non-vascular image-guided procedures.

He completed his MBBS at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute in 2005 and obtained his MD in Radio Diagnosis/Radiology from the University of Gauhati in 2011. Dr. Helavar further pursued advanced training, including a PDCC in Gastro Radiology from Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (2014), observerships in abdominal interventional radiology at Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany (2014), and at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine (2017), as well as specialized courses in tumor ablation and chemoembolization at Samsung Medical Centre, Seoul, and Seoul National University Hospital (2016, 2023).

His clinical expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of interventions: non-vascular procedures such as percutaneous biopsies, drainages, biliary interventions, nephrostomies, and tumor ablations (radiofrequency and microwave); and vascular procedures including diagnostic angiography, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for liver tumors, uterine artery embolization for fibroids and postpartum hemorrhage, embolization for gastrointestinal bleeding and hemoptysis, peripheral angioplasty and stenting, venous access procedures, dialysis access interventions, and transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS). He also has extensive experience in abdominal diagnostic radiology, including evaluation of liver and kidney transplant donors and recipients, characterization of liver lesions, multiparametric MRI of the prostate, and pre-surgical staging of abdominal malignancies.

Dr. Helavar is an active member of several professional societies, including the Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (ISVIR), the Society of Interventional Radiology, the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association, and the European and Indian Societies of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology. He has contributed numerous publications and presentations to national and international journals and conferences, and authored a book chapter on uterine artery embolization for fibroids. He is registered with the Karnataka Medical Council (Registration No. 71300).
